TRW WEEKLY REPORT FOR 22ND TO 26TH MARCH 2010.

The markets continued its bullish rally for 4 days to inch higher for most part of the week until a thursday correction with Fridays trading ended up with BULL taking charge.

Thursday's steep which seem to have ended 8 days bullish run reversed in a BULLISH ENGULFING week. The markets had shown an amazing resiliency, rattling off several higher closes and all time new highs in NSE ASI INDEX, NSE BANKING & NSE FBT.

The market has stayed bullish with regular profit booking at higher levels and consistent buying at lower levels. This might suggest that markets are in a consolidation phase. At the same time, individual sectors and stocks have moved beyond expectations.

In order to make money in this market, the investor needs to be a bit patient. If you are too impatient with your positions, you are every likely to miss out on the big moves.

March is the beginning of earnings season for the market and markets might turn a bit more volatile based on the news flow. Although my observation is that markets are usually good in anticipating results, my concern so far will be some stocks from the BANKING sector as market filters say we still expect more PROVISIONS will be made.

With interest rates as low by 2%, Investors continue to buy blue chips stocks despite the potential risks from the above to get better returns on their investments.

Technically, Fibonacci extension levels of 78.6% 24,362.37 and 100% 24,747.56 will continue to act as PROFIT TAKING LEVELS.

So it might make sense to be cautious and book partial profits around these levels. Take fresh positions only if markets make a convincing move upwards without much intraday volatility.

As far as individual stocks are concerned, I’d stick with the stocks that are in a firm uptrend. I still see a lot of participation in stocks in the sectors that have made new highs.

Last week, we mentioned that the markets were clearly overbought and that traders should be cautious moving forward. The market took a break on thursday, We look  forward to when to expect such again. Consolidation is healthy and if the markets are to continue with sustained strength higher, then a rest break is needed. It is too early to tell what the next move is, as one weak day that held above support doesn’t really change anything.

Overall, the markets are still showing strength and much will depend on the price action in the coming days. The preferred pattern for continued strength would be for volume to begin dwindling as the markets begin to drift sideways. This would allow for things to cool off while maintaining technical strength. If we start seeing continued high volume distribution days, take this as a sign that a more cautious approach is needed.
